Techne: Definitions

Techne is how you do what you do, when you do what you do.

Techne is how you do what you do, when you do what you do. Focusing on techne makes everything better.

Techne is life. When we ask, “how do we live a good life,” we are asking, “how do we do what we do, when we do what we do?”

Techne is purpose. When we ask, “why am I here,” the answer is techne. We are here to do what we do, when we do it.

Techne is simple. When we complicate life, we move away from techne. When life is complicated, return to techne.

Techne teaches. Look past the content of a lesson. Focus on how the teacher does what they do, when they do what they do.

Techne is action. Techne reminds us we are not roles or names. Roles and names are nouns. We are verbs. We are what we repeatedly do.

Techne is doing. Aristotle said, “you are what you repeatedly do.” Whether we call you a carpenter or a scientist, you are what you do most often.

Techne is intention. Reaction makes us masters of unintended consequences. Acting with intention makes us masters of techne.

Techne is freedom. Life unfolds. Choosing how we do what we do, when we do what we do, frees us to roam the domain of life.

Techne is wisdom. Words, numbers, and images provide clues for living. Understanding and connection are only found through action.

Techne is beauty. Look to beauty and study its details. Act beautifully and you are in techne. Act to learn and you live in beauty.

Techne is love. Love is our infinitely renewable resource. Choosing love generates techne for you, for others, and forever.
